4TH OF JULY PARADE
In 2019, 2022, and 2024, the Festival Latino of the Berkshires proudly participated in Pittsfield’s 4th of July Parade, a vibrant and patriotic celebration of U.S. Independence Day, organized by the Pittsfield Parade Committee, Inc.
Dressed in colorful, traditional costumes, our participants danced to lively Latin rhythms, creating a joyous atmosphere as we paraded down the streets of Pittsfield. From our beautifully decorated float, we shared the joy, vibrancy, and cultural richness of the Latino community, adding a unique and unforgettable flair to the celebration.
In 2022, more than 80 volunteers from the Berkshires’ Latino community, representing countries such as Mexico, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica, proudly showcased the traditional dances and costumes of their homelands. By 2024, we exceeded 100 volunteers, amplifying the spirit of unity and cultural pride.
For the 2024 parade, the theme of “red, white, and blue” took center stage as we celebrated the 4th of July in a way that blended our vibrant Latino heritage with the colors of the American flag. Our costumes were beautifully adorned in red, white, and blue, while still radiating the lively, festive colors that are emblematic of our culture. The youngest participants delighted the crowd by carrying silletas—traditional flower arrangements—on their backs, each depicting scenes symbolic of the holiday and our cultural roots.
Throughout the parade route, our volunteers stood out for their boundless joy and energy, engaging both young and old in a spirited celebration of Latino music and dance. Our DJ, Bernardino Aguilar, curated an exclusive playlist featuring music from each of the Latin American countries represented in our group, filling the air with a blend of rhythms that encouraged everyone to dance along.
This event wasn’t just a parade—it was a full-on cultural celebration, an explosion of music, dance, and togetherness that showcased the heart and soul of the Latino community. For both the young and the young-at-heart, it was a unique opportunity to experience the living, breathing presence of Latino culture right here in the Berkshires.
